Entertainment Alternatives in Mobile Alabama

Mobile is a good sized city, the third largest in the state of Alabama. That means that most people interested in moving to the city can expect to find a wide range of activities to pursue when they are not working or at school. While those who have owned real estate in Toronto may not find quite the diversity they are used to, the proximity of Mobile to other major cities in the state does assure that most of these opportunities can be found nearby. In this article, we are going to explore some of the entertainment opportunities available to Mobile residents.

First, it is important to point out the unique cultural heritage of which Mobile can boast. A mix of British, Creole, French, Spanish, Catholic and African populations means that Mobile stands out from most other Alabama cities, which tend to look a little like a lily white leaside in comparison. The result of that cultural mix is a vibrant social scene.

Probably one of the most important events on Mobile's social calendar every year is the celebration of Carnival and Mardi Gras. Carnival itself is an event which takes place through different celebrations for almost half of the year. The season starts out with balls in early November, and officially ends with the commencement of Mardi Gras in March.

Mardi Gras itself is not as popular in Mobile as it is in nearby New Orleans, although the celebrations have certainly been gaining in popularity for the past decade, with over one million people attending in 2009. The celebrations marking this famous event include balls and dances that would make even those stationed at CFB Kingston blush; mystic societies hold invitational balls, which are most definitely catered towards and adult crowd.

Of course, the eclectic nature of Mobile does not mean there are only entertainment opportunities for those who solely wish to party hard. The cultural heritage of the city means that there is a wide variety of museums and art galleries within the city's limits that are truly worth the time to visit. Those interested in the African American history can visit the National African American Archives and Museum, which includes artifacts from the slavery era to the modern day. Many stories of African families are retold here, from capture on the continent to relocation on pieces of Caledon real estate after escaping, and emancipation.

Finally, the climate and geography of Mobile mean that there are plenty of opportunities for those who enjoy pursuing outdoor recreation above all else. The city is home to many different parks and golf courses, and of course there are several beautiful public beaches along the coast.

Those considering putting up their Rockwood homes for sale and moving to Mobile need not worry about feeling bored in this new location. From rowdy festivals to quiet museums, indoor and outdoor options, there are plenty things to do in this city.
